Tonio is a partner at EMD Malta. Prior to joining the firm, he was in-house counsel at one of the big-four firms, which he joined after having carried out legal practice at a leading law-firm in Malta. Tonio’s main areas of practice are corporate and commercial law and he principally assists clients involved in international trade and business transactions.
Having served as council member of the Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, Tonio was also a founder member and council member of the Malta branch of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Amongst the various posts he has held, Tonio was also a member of the Malta-EU Steering Action Committee (MEUSAC) Core Group, having been appointed to this post by the Maltese Foreign Minister, prior to Malta’s accession to the European Union in 2004. During this period, he was appointed deputy chairperson of MEUSAC’s Competitiveness sub-committee which examined issues relating to, inter alia, the internal market, industry and research.
Throughout his 26 years of practice, he has lectured and examined on corporate and commercial law at the University of Malta and has also been invited to speak at various events relating to his professional experience.
